Spring is near.- DIY Easy Spring time wreath


I've been patiently waiting for the arrival of Spring.
Recently, I worked on creating a wreath for the upcoming season.
I purchased all my materials at Michaels.- They were having a big sale, and I was
lucky to find a few items on clearance.
So, if you're wanting to make an easy Spring time wreath, and maybe even this is your first time creating a wreath...here are some very simple steps.
Below you will find  some easy do it yourself instructions on making your very own wreath.








DIY- Easy Spring time wreath

You will need:
1 wreath. - Any size of your choice.
Flowers.- silk, paper..Choose any flower material for your wreath.
Optional- letters.
Wire cutter.- If you chose flowers with wires in them, you'll probably want to use this to cut them.

Here's what you'll want to do:

1. Start by clipping  your flowers.

2. Next, you'll want to arrange each flower on your wreath.

3. Be creative! I added one single letter on my wreath. I actually just purchased a wooden letter, and painted it white.- You could also do this, or you can skip that step. If you're able to find any butterflies, birds, or other decorative items for your wreath, feel free and add them to your wreath.

(And as far as adding a letter on your wreath; you can either glue it on, use wire, or string to attach your wooden letter). I used some string. This way I can take my letter off if I choose to change it out.

You're pretty much all done! Now all that's left to do is to hang it up, and enjoy!

We also worked on a mini wreath for my daughter. She wanted one on her room door.- And we used the same steps with this wreath. The only thing that is different is we used some twine ribbon.

Here we are. - Warmer weather has arrived. Okay, but wait just one minute...
we're being told we'll get some colder weather this week. - Maybe even another snow shower.
I've come to expect this kind of weather.
We're definitely looking forward to spring.

Lately, our trips to our local library are happening more often. I'll usually pick out a few books for both girls. - Every so often, my soon to be five year old daughter will want to pick out her own books. She's constantly reminding me about how much, and how fast she is growing.
I recently checked out a book on fun ways to garden for the whole family. I'm sure we'll get some good use out of this book. Last year I planted a few vegetables in pots. I'm thinking about expanding this year. - A bigger garden, and a lot more herbs. Do you like to garden?

Last month, I made a large batch of Kimchi. I have really been enjoying having Kimchi in our home. I remember when I was little, my mother would sit out in the backyard, and make batches of fresh kimchi.  I recently came across a Paleo beef soup recipe, and it has been a hit in our home. The flavors of this soup are absolutely wonderful. It's packed with vegetables, and I'm actually shocked that my oldest daughter has enjoyed it so much. -She's our picky eater.

We just finished up our mountain unit study. Next month we'll be moving on to learning about plants.- Botany.  I've started gathering our materials. I'll be checking out a few books/videos from the library as well.

Our 17 month old daughter has been a bit fussy. She's been having pain from her teeth that are currently breaking through. -She's all about cuddles right now.  -And this mom could really use more sleep!

So here we are.
Life has been treating us well.
And I really hope the same goes for you!

Peaceful moment.

how her crystal heart turned out.

Below I've included instructions on making your very own crystal hearts.

How to make your own crystal hearts.

1 Clear jar
4 Tablespoons of Borax (Detergent booster)
1 Pipe cleaner. (Any color will work)
Boiling water, -around 3 cups.
String
Pencil

We started out with making a heart shape using our pipe cleaner.
Take your clear jar and set it aside.
Now it's time to boil your water.
(You can either boil your water on the stove, or in the microwave).
While it's boiling, tie the string to the middle of the pencil.
And taking the other end of your string attach it to your heart shape.

Next, pour the boiling water into the jar.
Add in 4 tablespoons of Borax.
Give it a nice stir.
Make sure it all dissolves.
Place your pencil with your heart shape into the jar.
(Make sure your pencil is going across the top opening of your jar).
You really want to make sure the heart does not touch the bottom of the jar.

Allow it to set overnight.
In the morning, just remove it out of the jar.

All done!

Snow days and Mochi ice cream recipe.

Today the sun is finally out. --It's been out the last few days, but it has been staying hidden behind the clouds. Today we are so fortunate to see the sun shining so brightly, and beautifully. We had a few days of snow.--Quite a bit of snow!

During our snowy days we enjoyed warm drinks, snuggle time, books, board games, and Mochi ice cream. It's ice cream wrapped in a sweet flour dough. It's delicious, and so easy to prepare.

 When I was a little girl, my mother would actually purchase Korean rice cakes from the Asian market. I was so thrilled to find a recipe for Mochi ice cream. The dough reminded me of rice cake.- Soft, chewy, and sweet.

Ingredients

1/2 cup of Mochiko sweet rice flour brand. -( You can find this flour in most Asian markets).
3/4 cup of water
1/4 cup of sugar
Corn Starch
Ice cream.- Any ice cream will work. I used a strawberry flavor ice cream.
Optional- Food coloring. This is actually added to the flour mix. It makes it fun! I used a little bit of red food coloring.

Cupcake liners
Cupcake pan
Plastic wrap
Cutting Board
Rolling pin
Scissors
Knife
Large Bowl (Microwave safe bowl)
Ice cream scoop/ measuring spoon (tablespoon)

Preparing your ice cream

Start off with scooping out your ice cream. I actually used a measuring spoon for this. Doing this it actually scoops your ice cream out in small ice cream balls.

Next you will want to scoop each ice cream ball into your cupcake liner. I scooped out about 10 ice cream balls. Once this step is complete, you will want to place your cupcake pan with your ice cream in the freezer. -Leave them in the freezer for an hour.

Preparing your sweet rice flour dough

Mix your sweet rice flour, and water into a bowl. Give it a gentle mix until everything is smooth. Next add in your sugar. Continue mixing.

At this point everything will be completely mixed together.  This next step is completely optional, but if you want you can add in just a little bit of food coloring. I used just a tiny bit of red food coloring. - My oldest daughter wanted it to go with the Valentine theme we have been working on.

Next  take your microwave safe bowl and cover the top with plastic wrap. Place your flour mix into the microwave for 2 minutes.  Remove your bowl from the microwave, and make sure to grab it with a kitchen towel. - Your bowl may be hot, and also be careful when removing the plastic wrap. Remove your plastic wrap and give it another stir. Cover again, and add it back into the microwave for 30 seconds.

Finally, remove your bowl from the microwave. Your dough should be shiny, and ready for the next step. While preparing for the next step I left my plastic wrap off. This will help cool your dough.


Preparing to roll out the flour

Take some plastic wrap and cover the top portion of your cutting board. Take a generous amount of corn starch and apply some on top of the plastic wrap. - This will keep your dough from sticking to the surface.

You'll want to apply some to your rolling pin as well. Next, remove your dough from the bowl. It may still be hot, but hopefully by this point it has cooled down some. Place your dough on the cutting board. Again, taking some corn starch apply some on the dough - This really helps when rolling out the dough.

You're ready to start rolling out your dough. Once your dough is rolled out into a nice thin layer; you'll want to take a knife and make even 3 inch square pieces.

Next, take some scissors, and cut each square piece out through the plastic wrap.

Place your square pieces on a plate, and place in the refrigerator to chill for 30 mins.

While you wait, grab a book, and a warm drink!


Preparing to wrap your ice cream

Take both your ice cream, and dough out. Quickly take a layer of your Mochi dough, and ice cream. Wrap the dough over your ice cream- Make sure that the Mochi dough is completely wrapped around the ice cream ball.  If you have extra on top, you can take your scissors, and cut that portion off. Leave the plastic wrap on, and place it back into the cupcake liner. You'll do this for each one.

Once you're done, place in the freezer for about an hour. If you want a softer, chewier dough leave in for 20 mins.

**Note**
If you are enjoying  these right out of the freezer; place them on a plate, and let sit for a minute or two. -This will help  soften it up a bit. :)

Warm Citrus tea.








I absolutely love this recipe. It's packed with vitamin C. This drink really comes in handy when you're battling a cold, or just really need that extra boost of vitamin C. 

This recipe brought back so many memories. I found this easy recipe for this hot Citrus tea over at Honeysuckle. -Her recipes are absolutely wonderful. 

 While visiting in Korea, I had a nice cup of Yuja tea. The recipe that I used actually just uses 2 lemons, and 1 orange. 

In Korea, they actually use the Yuja fruit. My mother is Korean, and she really never made this tea. So of course, I was thrilled when I came across this simple recipe, and it actually has the citrus taste like Yuja tea. 

Ingredients:


  • 2 Lemons
  • 1 Orange
  • 2 inches Ginger Root
  • 1 Tbsp Turmeric
  • 1 cup Raw Honey

Take two lemons, and one orange. I actually washed my fruit using an organic vegetable/fruit spray. --I actually washed them because in this recipe you are asked to leave the rinds on. I just gave them a gentle scrub.

  Slice  lemons, and oranges.-- Make sure you make thin slices.  Next, you'll take your ginger root, and cut about 2 inches off. I then took my mortar and pestel out. You'll want to grind your ginger up. 

Once you've done this, you'll take your ginger, lemon, and oranges slices and place them in a bowl.  Add in 1 Tbsp of Turmeric, and one cup of raw honey. 

Mix all the ingredients. -- It smells absolutely wonderful when all the ingredients are mixed together. 

Pour this mixture into an airtight container. 

I placed my mixture in the refrigerator, and I also put a date on it. It can stay in the refrigerator for one month.

The next morning, I actually placed this citrus mixture into a cup of boiling  water.

Allowing it to sit overnight really brought the flavors together. 

This tea is very enjoyable, and remember it is loaded with vitamin C. --You'll feel great after enjoying a nice hot cup of this citrus tea. -*Store this mixture in the fridge for a week*

Note:  This is also amazing in oatmeal. Just heat this mixture in with milk, and then add oats. :)
