Easy Metal Tiered Tray Design: Create and decorate

Today, I'll show you how to make a tiered tray design using two metal trays and a metal candle holder. I found the metal trays at Target for $5 and picked up the candle holder at a Hobby Lobby clearance event last year. It's super simple!

Easy Metal Tiered Tray Design: Create and decorate

Two metal pans, spray paint and candleholder on a table

Materials

Spray paint- I used Magnolia Home Chalk paint
Two metal trays-I picked these up at Target for $5
One metal candle holder
Decorative Rub on transfers-I picked these leaf design transfers up at Dollar Tree
E6000 or any heavy-duty adhesive

Any Decorations for decorating your trays-I decided to use some of my fall decor

Spray painting metal trays

Spray paint and metal pan

To begin, carefully take your metal trays and move them to a well-ventilated area. Set up an area to spray your metal cans. I used an old cardboard box and set my trays on it before I started spray painting.

I sprayed a layer on both trays and let them set for about 30 minutes before spraying on the next coat of paint. I left my trays for about an hour after spraying on my final coat of paint.

First, cut your rub-on transfers and place them where you want them to appear on your trays. For my trays, I chose a leaf design, but you can choose any design.
Using a transfer tool, add your design.

First, apply adhesive to the top of the metal candle holder.
Then, place a metal tray on top, and apply adhesive to the bottom of the tray before pressing the candle holder onto it.
To ensure stability, place a lightweight object on top of the tray while it dries.

Adding decorations to tiered tray

Fall decorations for tiered tray laid out on a table

Start by adding your chosen decorations to the trays. For my fall-themed tray, I used faux mini pumpkins, beaded wooden fall decorations, faux floral, and a squirrel figurine that I got from a salt and pepper set at Dollar Tree. Isn't it cute?

I used a mini pumpkin cup from Hobby Lobby, faux fall leaves, and a wooden pumpkin decoration. I found a hedgehog at Michael's store.

Your tiered tray is finished and it's so cute! I was amazed at how simple it was to assemble with just a few supplies.

Thank you for joining me in creating and decorating. Check out my new link party on the blog starting Fridays at 9 am MST and ending Tuesdays at 11 pm MST.

  2. I've never used transfers before, but I would like to try them. I have never seen them at my Dollar Tree though. I actually thought at first the you purchased the pans with the transfers already on them, so lovely job! You always have such cute ideas Stephanie! I cannot say I have jumped on the tiered tray wagon, but I might jump on the pan wagon, teehee.

I've experienced a few problems when using the transfers, but I think I have figured out what I was doing wrong. 😅

Yes, you should jump on the pan wagon! I was surprised at how well it turned out. I love seeing what other people use to create these tiered trays.
