Create beautiful decoupage bookmarks using metal tags from Dollar Tree. This easy DIY project is perfect for all skill levels and adds a personal touch to your reading materials.
Hello everyone! Today, I have an easy and quick craft idea to share with you that book lovers will surely appreciate. My daughters love reading books on their Kindles, but we still take regular trips to the library to check out physical copies of books they are interested in.
However, I wanted to try something new this time, so I went to the Dollar Tree store and found a pack of metal tags. Yes, you read that right - these bookmarks are made of metal, but don't worry, we can add some decorative details to make them more attractive.

Materials
Metal tags
(I purchased them at Dollar Tree)
Acrylic paint
Mod Podge
Decorative napkins
Paintbrush
Twine
Acrylic paint

Applying paint to metal tags
Begin by applying two coats of acrylic paint to both sides of each metal tag. Use a heating tool to dry the paint between each coat. Don't worry about the paint chipping off; we'll use Mod Podge to seal it later.

Next, cut out any designs you want to use for your bookmarks from tissue paper or decorative napkins. You can also add stickers to your design. Overlap the tissue paper and napkin on the back of the bookmark to avoid sharp edges or corners. I did this when applying my Mod Podge.

Adding the twine and beads

Lastly, take your twine and add your beads to it. String the beads onto the twine and pull one end through the hole on the bookmark. Tie it off with a knot to secure it. Repeat the process with the other end of the twine. Be sure to tie it into a knot to prevent the beads from sliding down.

Before using your bookmarks, let them sit for a day or two to allow the Mod Podge to dry completely. Your bookmarks are now ready. They make perfect gifts for book lovers.
