10 things I want my daughters to know as they grow.

10 things I want my daughters to know as they grow

1. No matter what I will always love you

Even when it might seem like I'm frustrated, sad, or just having a rough time.
I will always love you.

2. You're perfect just the way you are

Always remember this. You are perfect just the way you are!

3.  Friends come and go

I often tell myself that people are like seasons passing by.  You will realize that not all friends will stay.  As I grew up I realized that it wasn't about the number of friends, but the quality of friends. As time goes on you will learn this too.

4. Never feel rushed to heal

Healing takes time. Never feel the need to rush the healing process. Take a deep breath, and gather your thoughts, but please never rush the healing process.

“Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful part of us.”
― David Richo

5.   Always ask questions

Big, small, or just because! Always ask questions. Asking questions, and getting answers to your questions is always important.

6.  Not everyone is out to hurt you

This is something I had to learn.  For most of my life, I thought that everyone was out to hurt me. This is not true.  Just because you encounter a few bad people in this world does not mean that everyone is that way.

7. Forgive

This is something I struggle with. Honestly, it is something that seems to drain me.  But to let go, and be free, we must forgive. It may take some time, but forgiving will open your heart.

8. Explore new ideas

Take time to explore new ideas.  Learn new things, and take a chance on new adventures.

9.  Always show gratitude

When you get up each day remind yourself that there is so much to be thankful for.

You are here.
You are healthy.
 You are so loved.

10.  Never give up

Never, ever give up. Even when situations seem tough, and you just don't think you can do it. Take a step back, reevaluate the situation, and give it another try. Sometimes we just need a break to figure things out, but never give up. Even if it means you have to come back to it later.

What is something you have learned during your life journey?
I'd love to hear about it. Feel free and leave a comment below

  3. yes, love of parent is a great thing to have as your own base. Thinking of people as important part of your life but something that might go is very wise, I wish my parents told me that (they always told me that friends are everything you need to have friends, that is why I was always super anxious about lacking friendship). and always ask questions! yes, yes, yes! so many reasons why: you might know more about things, you might get to know new people, you might make people look on you differently, you might understand rules and tasks better that way too

    1. Lyosha, I love that you shared some things your parents shared with you. I love hearing what others have learned from their parents. Yes asking questions has always been something I have told my girls. I want them to always feel as though they are free to ask questions, I want them to be able to learn more, explore more, and just enjoy this life journey. Thank you so much for your comment. I really enjoyed it.

  4. These are great lessons! Honestly, there ARE a lot of 'bad' people in the world and we're being reminded of that regularly with all the negativity surrounding the current global situation. However, if you're willing to keep looking, you'll find that there are some incredible stories of people coming together, supporting one another and showing love. I love that you included #6 because it's a reminder of this. There ARE amazing, loving, caring and supportive people in the world.

    1. Britt, thank you so much. I agree, there are amazing, loving, caring, and supportive people. Yes of course we will encounter bad people, but I have had to remind myself that not all people are bad. I want my girls to always remember this. Thank you so much for stopping by.

  7. I read this and I shed a tear, to be quite honest. I was raised by a narcissist, so I learned none of these things as a child, but I wish I had. I wish I had grown up feeling loved, not controlled and silenced. I hope every parent out there shares these things with their children, and they know they are loved. This is the kind of advice that will set them on a great path and stay with them forever. I'm so glad you shared it.

    1. Erica, your comment really touched me. When I was growing up, my parents were present, but not completely. I honestly don't remember them ever really hugging us much. Now that I am a parent, I want my girls to always feel loved. I want them to know they can come to me for anything, and everything. I always enjoy your comments. Thank you for sharing your story as well.
